Vicki L. Eaklor

PROFILE

Vicki L. Eaklor, Professor of History.  Dr. Eaklor's COURSES include lower and upper-level courses in American history and culture, from Spanish colonization of the Americas to the late 20th century, and she also teaches in the Women's Studies Program. In 1998 she received an Excellence in Teaching Award.  Dr. Eaklor came to Alfred in 1984 after teaching at the University of Louisville. She received her PhD in 1982 from Washington University in St. Louis after having earned Master of Arts degrees in both History and Music at that institution.

Her undergraduate work, done at Adams State College of Colorado (BA, 1976), was almost entirely in music until she "picked up" a history major (and a different career path) in her last two years. She continues to be involved in music and other arts at Alfred, teaching percussion and even serving as interim Band Director in 1994.

Dr. Eaklor's RESEARCH interest's range widely but revolve around topics relative to culture, politics, gender, and sexuality in all eras of American history.
